The WBT project aims at creating a web-based course in embryology to first and second year medical students. The learning efficiency of this courseware is improved by a continuous formative pedagogical evaluation. This paper presents a study about the ways text and images are combined into the courseware prototype to favour learning. A literature analysis, from psychopedagogical experimental results on reading task memorisation and comprehension, indicates general choices to be made for these image-text combinations. A second analysis, based on a questionnaire given to students in medicine, is aimed at determining the perception that students have of the chosen combinations.
